Books on Film
2020

Brand Design / Merch Design / Digital Design

Hosted by the CBC’s Eleanor Wachtel, Books on Film explores the intersections of cinema and literature. Film screenings are accompanied by in-depth onstage conversations with renowned authors, filmmakers, and screenwriters about the challenging but rewarding process of adaptation.
To mark the 10th year of Books on Film, I was tasked with redesigning its visual system. The Art Deco movement was a large inspiration for the typefaces selected and graphic elements created as it calls to mind the golden age of cinema. The linework graphics show an open book emanating light from within its pages

Twitter GIF revealing films included in the programming.

Digital GIFs were designed to emulate film leaders (countdowns seen prior to movies starting) from the early ages of cinema. The starburst-shaped linework reflects the shape of a book splayed open cover-to-cover from a birds eye view.

Limited edition tote bags given to subscribers of the series.
